Opening Day Letter from Dr. Huss

Opening Day Letter from Dr. Huss
September 6, 2018

Dear Millstone Families,

The beginning of a new school year is a special time for all of us. I want to extend a special
welcome to all the new students and families who have joined our community this year. We are
very happy to have you. I also welcome back all of our returning families. The faculty, staff and I
have been looking forward to the start of school with great excitement and anticipation. Once
again, we will strive our hardest to instill the pillars of inquiry, knowledge, and character into each

It was a busy summer as we prepared for the 2018-2019 school year. Four eighth grade students
voluntarily completed a course in Algebra and passed the state’s end-of-course assessment with
admirable scores. Our Buildings and Grounds staff not only cleaned our buildings from top to
bottom, they painted, renovated, and upgraded a number of rooms and common areas to further
enhance our already impressive learning environments. The district also received news from the
Commissioner of Education that we are, and have been, legally entitled to send students to Red
Bank Regional High School Academies, in addition to Allentown High School and Monmouth
County Vocational Schools. We will share additional news regarding the ruling in the near future
as we begin to orient the eighth graders for high school. In addition, we redesigned curricula in
several content areas, most notably K-5 Social Studies and Language Arts, to streamline standards
and ensure up-to-date content and instructional practices.

It is my hope that your children come off their buses this afternoon with smiling faces and positive
stories about their first day back. If there is anything we can do to help make that a reality, do not
hesitate to reach out. The following link Contact Us, or the “Contact Us” link on the district’s
website, will provide a list of whom you should reach out to for assistance. I look forward to a
great year ahead and to seeing you all out at Back to School Night in the coming weeks.

All the best,
Chris Huss, EdD
